The formal Inauguration of UCPS was held at the CV Raman Hall, Department of Physics, University College on Monday, 23rd of February 2009 at 2.p.m by Sri. Jacob Punnose IPS, DGP, Kerala, a former student of this department. On this occasion 15 old professors of the department were honoured. They are Dr.T.C. Sebastian, Prof. K. Sankaran Nair, Prof. K. Karunakaran Nair, Prof. C.C. Philip, Dr.N.N. Mathew, Prof.A. Prabhakaran Nair, Dr. Joy George, Dr.K. Sudarsanan, Sri. S. Venketaramanan, Dr.P.Mahadevan, Prof.P.Gomathy, Dr. Aleyamma George, Dr.A.J. Michael, Sri.P.V. Joseph and Sri. T.M George. Out of this 6 professors attended the meeting. Sri. Jacob Punnose IPS presented shawl and memento to all the professors. He also presented memento to the students of BSc and MSc who have scored maximum marks in the University Examinations. The meeting was well attended and gave a good beginning to the activities of UCPS.

In a short span of 4 years University College Physics Society has helped to institute the following scholarships/Merit Award to MSc/BSc students of the college.

1. Prof. K Govindan Memorial Scholarship to two students of MSc Physics First year and Second year students Each scholarship is Rs. 7500 annually. Instituted by the family of Prof. K. Govindan

2. Prof C C Philip Scholarship to I BSc Student. Rs. 5000/- annually. Instituted by Prof. V. Parameswaran Nair, Professor, Newyork City College, an eminent Physicist, a former student of the department

3. Prof. K. Sankaran Nair Scholarship to II BSc student Rs. 5000/- annually. Instituted by the family of Prof. K Sankaran Nair, a renowned former Professor of University College.

4. Smt. Nirmala Kurup Memorial Scholarship to III BSc student Rs.5000/- annually. Instituted by Prof. Rajendra Kurup, a former student in the name of his wife.

5. Prof. Thanu Iyer Award for the student of Final year BSc who scores maximum marks in the University Examinations. Instituted by Prof. Thanu Padmanabhan, a former student, Cosmologist, IUCAA, Pune in the name of his father

6. Prof. N. Parvathy Award for Academic Excellence to Final semester MSc student who scores the highest marks in the University Examinations from Dept. of Physics. Instituted by Prof. G Ambika, Dean, IISER, Pune, a former student of the department
